Anīs al-murīdīn wa shams al-majālis: Some Notes Concerning Recensions of the Text

Abstract. Anis al‑muridin wa shams al‑majalis is a mystical tafsir on sura “Yusuf” written in Persian which had previously been attributed to ʻAbdallah Ansari (1006—1089). Recent research has proved this attribution to be incorrect, and it has also been discovered there are at least two recensions of the text. The present article deals with the further questions of the history of Anis al‑muridin. It presents some observations and ideas concerning relationship between the two recensions and their authors based on the comparison of the headings in the texts as well as distribution of the known manuscripts. Also included in the article is the detailed description of the copy of Anis al‑muridin preserved at St. Petersburg.
