History of Discovering and Problems in Studying Crimean Court Books of the 17th—18th Centuries

Abstract. The publication is devoted to the problems of translation and study of the monuments of the Crimean Tatar literature — court books of the 17th—18th centuries, that belong to Bahchesaray, Karasubazar and some other districts of the Crimean Khanate as well as to the history of discovery and translation of these documents. A special attention was paid to yet unexplored aspects of the Crimean court registries. The article raised a number of questions need to be answered in connection to a number of inaccuracies and shortcomings admitted by previous researchers. One of the central problems of the study of collections of Crimean court decisions is the problem of identification and description of the language of their texts. In this regard, the publication presents several translations of the texts mentioned above, which help to understand general direction of philological research of the monuments of official correspondence in Crimea of Khanate era, proposed by the author.
