Professor at the Department of Central Eurasian studies (Indiana University)  and Corresponding Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

 

Education and Scholarly career

  • Ph.D. from ELTE University of Budapest, Hungary (1961);
  • Candidate of Linguistics degree of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1967);
  • Doctor of Philology degree, Leningrad State University, 1975

 

Research Interests:

Mongol and Inner Asian studies: languages and cultures, including Old Turkic, Tibetan, Manchu, Evenki, Khitan and Altaic philology, history of writing systems, Altaic linguistics., Mongol literature and folklore.
